Fun, friendship, work and learning - just another normal day at SLATE Feel Good Furniture
We believe that people with learning and other disabilities should have the same right to employment, training and volunteering as everyone else.
All of our volunteers should have the same opportunities to mix with the wider community, work and relax. A lot of people with learning disabilities want to be challenged, to learn and achieve new things; just like everyone else.
Using furniture to learn skills and help the community
Our support, work and training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities have always involved furniture. Renewing, reviving, repairing. It’s what we love to do and helps teach skills useful for everyday life as well as makes good furniture available for people on low incomes.
And, by the way, we divert lots of unwanted items from landfill
The work we do to reuse furniture diverts many tonnes of waste from landfill, which saves energy, resources and cuts greenhouse gases and pollution so harmful to our planet. Reusing and re-loving furniture makes so much sense for us and the World!
We’ve been feeling good for 20 years!
We were set up to care for, guide and support people with learning disabilities, right back in 2004 when we were a furniture shop open for just half a day a week in Leeds City Council’s adult social care day centre at Moor End.
Twenty years on, two full-time furniture shops, cafe, head office, warehouse and training centre later, we’re as dedicated, inspired and committed to equal access to employment, training and volunteering through working with furniture, as ever.
