It’s hard to tell where the idea of the Danish Bakery first began, but ask anyone who’s spent time in Denmark, and they’ll tell you that you're never too far from a bakery (bageri). It’s just a part of daily life. When I moved to Wales in 1998, I very quickly felt at home, but I did miss the bread. That was the catalyst for this adventure.My love of bread started at home. My grandfather (FarFar) - was a baker in central København, and so we were very used to tales of making bread (brød), pastries (wienerbrød) and cake (kage) - and plenty of sampling too. 

At home, I baked with my mother (Mor) and Grandmother (Bedstemor) and it's a tradition I’ve kept going with my own children (børn). So for me, baking is an important connection with the land of my birth.

It took a few years, but what was started as a dream slowly turned into a plan, and in November 2015, the dream finally became reality.  Our first location opened in an old corner shop in Pontcanna. It was a big learning curve for us all, but with a great team and wonderful support form the local community, we quickly become part of the local fabric.  In January 2020, our adventure took on a new dimension with the opening of our second location in Penarth. In 2022 the company continued its expansion with the opening of a brand new Bakery and take away hatch in the east of Cardiff, and in the Spring of 2024 a fourth outlet will open in Cardiff Bay. So, for us the journey continues; we’re still excited, still love meeting new - and old - faces every day, and proud to have been able to bring a little taste of Denmark to Wales.
